Life habit: lichenicolous Thallus: endokapylic, not causing visible damage to the host photobiont Apothecia: 0.2-0.35(-0.45) mm in diam., scattered to occasionally somewhat aggregated disc: plane to slightly convex, cream to dark brown or black exciple: 50-85 µm thick, hyphal diam. in outermost parts 4-11 µm (lumina 2-6 µm), hyphal diam. in inner parts 2.5-8 µm (lumina 1-4 µm) hymenium: hyaline, 45-80 µm tall; hymenial gel: ILugol paraphyses: below 1.5-3(-5) µm thick (lumina 1-2(-3) µm), apically 3-6 µm thick (lumina 1.5-4 µm) hypothecium: hyaline, rarely pale brown to pale reddish brown, 40-110 µm thick asci: cylindrical to subclavate, 36-60 x 9-17 µm, tholus max. 6.5-11 µm, min. 4-6 µm thick, outer wall I1:6 + blue to ascospores: hyaline, (0-)1septate, ellipsoid to broadly ellipsoid, (10-)11.5-14.1(-15) x (4-)4.8-5.8(-7) µm 80-110 µm wide, sessile, wall c. 10-15 µm thick, composed of 2-7 wall layers microconidia: hyaline, filiform to narrowly bacilliform, often slightly curved, (6-)7.6-9.3(-13) x (0.8-)1-1.2(-1.5) µm. Macroconidial state: Karsteniomyces peltigerae (P. Karst.) D. Hawksw. macroconidia: hyaline, 0-1-septate, (8-)13.6-19.2(-26) x (3-)3.8-5.0(-5.5) µm. Hosts: on cyanophycophilous Peltigera species (sensu Rambold and Triebel 1992), incl. P. canina and P. rufescens, in Mexico on Peltigera austroamericana (thallus) World distribution: Europe, Africa, Australasia, South America, and North America Sonoran distribution: western Chihuahua.
