Thallus crustose, endophloeodal, smooth and continuous, mineral gray; vegetative diaspores absent. Photobiont Trentepohlia in scattered clumps, not abundant. Ascomata perithecoid, multilocular, “compound perithecia” with a common carbonized ascomatal roof with multiple ostioles; compound perithecia scattered, irregular, black. Hymenium hyaline, K/I-; paraphysoids not distinct, short-celled, highly branched and anastomosed. Asci pyriform, 8-spored; ascospores hyaline to brown, muriform, 30-38(-43) × 12-17(-18) µm, with 8-9 rows of locelli, transversely constricted at 1-2 septa.

Substrate and Habitat. Corticolous hardwood trees.
Distribution. Pantropical to eastern North America; in North Carolina found in Piedmont and Blue Ridge ecoregions.
