Thompson, J., 1997. American Arctic Lichens: The Microlichens.
Thallus subsquamulose, dark chestnut, the squamules 0.3-0.5 mm, dispersed, then forming groups with an uneven surface; underside pale. Upper cortex 35-50 μm, transparent, the upper 6-10 μm, yellow-brown, algal layer continuous; cortical cells 2-2.5 μm in diameter; medulla poorly developed, hyphae densely interwoven, leptodermatous, 2-3 μm; exciple thick, outer part blackish brown, 20-35 μm, also continuing below apothecium; interior 80-150 μm, pale reddish brown below hymenium and at margins. Apothecia compounded, forming 1-2 mm groups, gyrose-plicate; margin thin, prominent; hypothecium indistinct, hyaline or pale reddish brown, to 85 μm thick; epihymenium 10-30 μm, dark reddish brown to blackish; hymenium 100-150 μm, hyaline; paraphyses 1.7 μm, tips 2.5-3 μm; asci narrowly clavate, 70-85 μm; spores about 100 per ascus, broadly ellipsoid, 3-4 X 2 μm. Conidia subglobose, 1.5-1.7 μm.

Reactions: thallus K—, C—; hymenium 1+ blue.

This species was found on sandy soil. It is known only from the type locality at Scorsby Sund, Greenland.
