Life form. Lichenized fungus
Description. Thallus crustose, grayish white to olive, continuous. Photobiont Trentepohlia. Ascomata perithecia, black, ~0.3 mm diam., subglobose, subimmersed; ostiole apical. Perithecial wall carbonized, not entire below the hymenium; hymenium hyaline; paraphyses subconglutinate. Asci thin, fusiform, 8-spored; ascospores hyaline, filiform, 60-70 x 1.5 – 2.5 μm (Müller 1895), 14-21-celled, 100-140 × 3-5 µm (Harris 1995). Conidiomata not reported.

Substrate and habitat. Corticolous in forests.
Distribution. Eastern North America; in North Carolina found throughout.
