Thallus: indistinct, lacking asexual propagules Apothecia: partially immersed or sessile, 0.1-0.5 mm in diam. disc: black, plane to convex margin: prominent, not umbonate exciple: black, gray, green, or brown hypothecium: brown, hyaline, or brownish yellow hymenium: hyaline, rarely black, emerald-green or turquoise above, 40-45 µm tall asci: clavate, 8-spored ascospores: hyaline, simple, ellipsoid or obovoid, with obtuse ends, 6-12(-13) x 4-7 µm; wall: thin and smooth Secondary metabolites: none detected. Host: other lichens (Candelariella, Lecanora, Lecidea, and Rhizocarpon) over non-calciferous rock World distribution: Europe and North America Sonoran distribution: montane areas of Arizona and Baja California.
