TYPE. “In insular Java (Jungh., ex specim. v. d. Boschiano, et hb. lugd. bat.).” Müller (1882). INDONESIA. Java. Junghuhn s.n. (G, lectotype designated by Archer 2001).

Description. Life form: lichenized fungus.

Thallus crustose, whitish, thin, corticolous; vegetative diaspores absent. Photobiont trentepohlioid alga. Ascomata lirellae, erumpent with a slight thalline margin, elongate, irregularly branched (tenella-morph); labia black, striate, epruinose. Exciple laterally carbonized; hymenium not inspersed, 100-125 μm high. Asci 8-spored; ascospores hyaline, transversely 9-13-septate, 30-50 x 7-10 μm.

Chemistry. No substances detected by TLC.

Substrate and Habitat. Corticolous on hardwood trees.

Distribution. Pantropical; in North Carolina found in the Coastal Plain ecoregion.
