TYPE. UNITED STATES. Florida, Seminole County, Sanford, on Sabal palmetto, 1930, S. Rapp s.n. (W, holotype; BRA, lectotype designated in Tibell et al. 2003; NY, possible isotype)
Thallus not apparent. Photobiont absent. Ascomata stalked apothecia, 0.5-0.6 mm tall, black; capitulum obconical to lenticular, black, 0.15-0.3 mm diam.; stalk black, smooth, 0.07-0.1 mm diam., internally dark, pseudoparenchymatous. Hypothecium brown, triangular, composed of erect hyphae; hymenium ~60 µm high. Asci cylindrical, persistent, 8-spored; apex thickened, penetrated by a narrow canal. Ascospores uniseriate in ascus, simple, brown, 6.5-10 × 3-4 µm.
Chemistry. Not reported.
Substrate and Habitat. Lignicolous on Sabal palmetto frond bases in floodplain forests.
Distribution. Coastal southeastern North America; in North Carolina found in the Coastal Plain ecoregion.
