TYPE. ARGENTINA. Buenos Aires, on thallus of Ricasolia casarettiana, Apr 1890, C. Spegazzini s.n. (LPS 1618, holotype).
Description. Lichenicolous fungus.
Thallus absent. Ascomata perithecia, immersed, orange to pink, smooth, 120-150 μm diam. Asci cylindrical with rounded apex and short, thick pedicel, 40-50 x 7-10 µm, 8-spored, uniseriate; paraphyses absent. Ascospores brown, 1-septate, slightly constricted at septum, 6.5-8 x 5-6 µm.
Substrate and Habitat. Lichenicolous on a variety of foliose (e.g., Hypotrachyna, Punctelia, Ricasolia) lichens in forests.
Distribution. South America, eastern North America, Europe; in North Carolina the species is recorded from the coast and mountain regions, and likely occurs throughout the state.
